Pfc. Barrett L. Austin, 20, of Easley, S.C.; 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga. Died April 21 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of wounds suffered April 17 in Wardak province.
Capt. Aaron R. Blanchard, 32, of Selah, Wash.
1st Lt. Robert J. Hess, 26, of Fairfax County.
The two soldiers were assigned to 2nd Aviation Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, N.Y. They were killed April 23 in Logar province.
Capt. Brandon L. Cyr, 28, of Woodbridge; 906th Air Refueling Squadron, based at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Staff Sgt. Richard A. Dickson, 24, of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; 306th Intelligence Squadron, based at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
Staff Sgt. Daniel N. Fannin, 30, of Morehead, Ky.; 552nd Operations Support Squadron, based at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
Capt. Reid K. Nishizuka, 30, of Kailua, Hawaii; 427th Reconnaissance Squadron, based at Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
The four airmen were killed April 27 when their MC-12 aircraft crashed near Kandahar Airfield.
Staff Sgt. Michael H. Simpson, 30, of San Antonio; 4th Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. Died May 1 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of wounds suffered April 27 in Ghazni province.
Pfc. Charles P. McClure, 21, of Stratford, Okla.
Spec. Trinidad Santiago Jr., 25, of San Diego.
The two soldiers were assigned to 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colo. They died May 2 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident.
All troops were killed in action in Afghanistan unless otherwise indicated.
Total fatalities include three civilian employees of the Defense Department. They also include service members killed in other locations involved in Operation Enduring Freedom, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Djibouti; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Jordan; Kenya; Kyrgyzstan; Pakistan; Philippines; Seychelles; Sudan; Tajikistan; Turkey; Uzbekistan; and Yemen.
