MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Council Member Out of Hospital

Montgomery County Council member George L. Leventhal is home from the hospital after his car collided with a deer Thursday during the afternoon rush on the Capital Beltway.

Neil Greenberger, the council's spokesman, said Leventhal (D-At Large) does not expect to return to work for the next few days but hopes to use a phone hookup to participate in a meeting of the council's Health and Human Services Committee, which he chairs, later this week.

Leventhal, who suffered broken bones in his face, was released from Suburban Hospital on Sunday.

"He is home and he is feeling okay," Greenberger said.

Man Is Stabbed in Gaithersburg

A man was stabbed in the Lakeforest Mall area in Gaithersburg last night, authorities said.

Gaithersburg police responding to a call about 6:30 p.m. found a man with stab wounds near a busy bus stop on Lost Knife Road, said Sgt. Rudy Wagner, a spokesman for the department. A suspect fled and had not been apprehended by police last night, he said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, Wagner said.
