Defendant in Letterman sex case invokes Tiger Woods

NEW YORK -- The TV producer accused of shaking down David Letterman to keep mum about Letterman's affairs is drawing on the Tiger Woods sex scandal as part of his defense.

In court papers filed Tuesday in Manhattan, Robert "Joe" Halderman's lawyer cites published reports that Woods paid an alleged mistress to stay silent. She wasn't charged with any crime, and defense lawyer Gerald Shargel says his client shouldn't be, either. He says Halderman just tried to sell his "very marketable" information to Letterman to do with as he wished.

Prosecutors say Halderman demanded $2 million as hush money. He has pleaded not guilty to attempted grand larceny.

Woods has acknowledged infidelities without giving specifics, and has not said he paid anyone to keep quiet.
