Lisa Cannon, Condo Cool

After living in more than a dozen countries as a director for a global nonprofit organization, Cannon settled into a Capitol Hill condo in 2001 to raise her family. While decorating her new digs, she discovered the challenges of making the most out of tight urban spaces and open loft layouts. With design training at the Corcoran and other schools under her belt, in 2004 she founded Condo Cool (202-330-8675,, a design business aimed at helping apartment and other small-space dwellers tackle projects from picking paint colors to total rehabs. Cannon, 44, describes her aesthetic as "warm modern: clean lines in furniture, tinged with warm colors and textures via accessories and artwork."
