Cube Design

Patrick J. Baglino Jr.

Baglino's office in his ambassador's-residence-turned-penthouse is a far cry from that of most cube dwellers, from the Ralph Lauren cherry-and-steel desk to the balcony with sweeping views of Dupont Circle. But Baglino, 38, whose portfolio includes both a $5 million Chevy Chase mansion and a one-bedroom Petworth condo, insists that even modest spaces can be lovely. When the former commercial designer agreed in 1998 to tackle a friend's 18-room mansion, he realized he had found his calling, chucked commercial design and opened Patrick J. Baglino Jr. Interior Design (202-234-1902, www.pbaglino.com). Kudos followed for his eclectically sophisticated rooms, including a spot on House Beautiful's list of top young designers in 2004 and spreads in other glossy shelter mags.
