Text of Linda Tripp's Sworn Statement About Lewinsky, Willey

This is the sworn statement that Linda R. Tripp signed on Jan. 21 for Paula Jones's lawyers:

1. My name is Linda R. Tripp. I am over the age of 18 and fully competent to testify. The facts stated herein are based on my personal knowledge.

2. I have been a Schedule C appointee at the United States Department of Defense since August 1994. Prior to that, I served as an apolitical careerist in an exempted service appointment on the White House permanent staff. My most recent position at the White House was Executive Assistant to the Counsel to the President in the Clinton White House.

3. In the course of my tenure in the Clinton White House, I became friends with Kathleen Willey. She described to me a sexual encounter she had with President Clinton in November 1993.

4. While serving at the Department of Defense, Monica Lewinsky, a colleague and friend in the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public affairs, revealed to me in detailed conversations on innumerable occasions that she has had a sexual relationship with President Clinton since November 15, 1995. She played for me at least three tapes containing the President's voice and showed me gifts they exchanged. Monica Lewinsky is 24 years old, and resides at 700 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. Recently, Monica Lewinsky told me that she had been subpoenaed to testify in Paula Jones' case against President Clinton. She said that she was going to deny everything, that President Clinton would deny everything and she repeatedly stated that I must lie and deny that she had ever told me anything about a relationship with President Clinton.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.

Executed on January 21, 1998.
