About the Section: Coaches from more than 250 schools in the Washington area were invited to nominate top athletes from their sports. Selections were made by The Washington Post's scholastic sports staff. The athletes were photographed photographed individually by Toni L. Sandys and later put into teams using photo editing software. The photo above was taken at the University of Maryland's Comcast Center. Videos by Mike Springirth of Atkinson & Co.
The Post would like to thank Nick Morrow and the Comcast Center staff for their cooperation as well as all of the athletes, parents and coaches who patiently posed for the cover photo.
