Yugoslavia Takes Men's Bronze
Yugoslavia returned from Olympic banishment to win its first men's volleyball medal,
beating Russia in four sets for the bronze Sunday.
Kept out of the 1992 Games because of United Nations sanctions
due to the civil war, Yugoslavia made a surprising run through this
tournament, capped by its 15-8, 7-15, 15-8, 15-9 win Sunday.
Cuban Women Win 2nd Straight Gold
Cuba became the second country to win
consecutive Olympic women's volleyball gold medals when it beat China in four sets Saturday. Led by hitter Mireya Luis and blockers Magalys Carvajal and Ana Ibis Fernandez, the Cubans won 14-16, 15-12, 17-16, 15-6. The former Soviet Union was the only other country to win consecutive Olympic titles, in 1968 and 1972.
Brazilian Women Win Bronze Medal
Brazil won its first Olympic women's volleyball medal Saturday by outlasting Russia in five sets to take the bronze. Brazil scored six of the final 10 points to close out the 15-13, 4-15, 16-14, 8-15, 15-13 victory. The loss knocked Russia off the medals stand for the first time in the eight Olympics it has competed.

Kemner Adjusts to Reserve Role
Once she was considered the best in the world at
her sport, the kind of player opponents had to gang up on to stop
and teammates turned to in a jam. Now U.S. volleyball player Caren Kemner doesn't even start. On the eve of her third and what she says is her final Olympics, the 31-year-old Kemner is a role player hoping for a chance to
help.
