Wake Up!

Vukani means "Wake up!" and represents a cry for help. The people who live in the squatter camp of Vukani near Grahamstown, South Africa, struggle daily in small homes that do not have electricity or clean water.

ABOUT:Patrick Davison photographed the people of Vukani on three visits over three years. Currently, Davison is a professor at the University of North Carolina where he combines teaching with photography and multimedia projects. He shared the Pulitzer Prize as part of the Rocky Mountain News photo staff for coverage of the Columbine High School shootings.
