At the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, high performance in business is defined by a singular purpose: bringing people together to create value for business and society.
Darden cultivates leaders of tomorrow through degree and non-degree learning experiences underwritten with a fundamental belief that business should be a catalyst for social good.
“We see the business enterprise as broader than most schools,” said R. Edward Freeman, the Elis & Signe Olsson Professor of Business Administration, whose foundational ideas on stakeholder theory influence the way the world does business. “We see customers, suppliers, employees, communities, people with the money, society – those are the things that we need to think about when we talk about managing the whole enterprise.”
Because business is a social endeavor, all of Darden’s learning pathways are intensely relational by design: immersive, dialogue driven experience led by faculty ranked best in the world of bringing out the best in their students. Darden students learn by example how to empower others, and how to go from inclusive vision to enduring impact.
“The most unique thing about Darden is our student-centered pedagogy,” said Melissa Thomas-Hunt, who is Senior Associate Dean of Darden’s Full-Time MBA, one of three MBA formats that the School offers between Charlottesville and the DC Metro Area. “We are really focused on our students, which means we’re absolutely committed to their development as managers and leaders. We help them to understand the ways that they can be confident, respectful and civil, and to engage as ethical leaders.”
This is business school not as usual: Educating doers with the skills, smarts, and sense of purpose and ethics to forge the future.
