Meet the Knights of the Maryland Renaissance Festival

Jousting, the practice of two opponents charging at each other on horseback, originated in the medieval time period as a way for knights to prepare for battle. However, by the 14th century, jousting tournaments were big productions curated mostly for entertainment.

Visitors to the Maryland Renaissance Festival can witness jousting tournaments three times each day, where skilled performers execute daring acrobatic feats and compete against one another for the grand prize. Watch the video above to learn more about this impressive display of athleticism and entertainment.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival, now in its 47th year, is open Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day Monday from August 26 to October 22. All tickets sold online only at MarylandRenaissanceFestival.com
