5 steps to an IT Transformation roadmap
Organizations need to prepare for the digital economy with a plan to modernize, automate and transform their infrastructure in support of IT as a Service (ITaaS). These five steps can help you build a successful IT Transformation roadmap.
1. Prioritize your IT pain points
A survey of IT professionals revealed that about 75% of staff time was spent on day-to-day maintenance of core functions, which detracts from strategic initiatives. Identify other areas where your organization may be at risk, such as application silos, lack of alignment with business needs and security. Then, set your priorities.
2. Define application and workload requirements
As you plan, be sure to evaluate key performance factors like availability, scalability, speed and flexibility. Accurately gauging the requirements of real-world business applications and workloads will help you determine the optimal technology solutions your organization needs to modernize IT infrastructure.
3. Identify technologies crucial to workloads
Nearly 65% of IT organizations now use converged infrastructure or plan to do so, and 55% are modernizing with hyper-converged, according to a TechTarget study. Most will blend legacy systems and new solutions, such as hybrid cloud, to automate service delivery of applications that support data analytics or desktop virtualization. Identify the right technologies for your environments.
4. Develop a deployment strategy
If you’re like 80% of survey respondents planning to increase public cloud spending, or 51% increasing spend for private cloud, you’ll need a deployment strategy. When automating a business-critical application using hybrid cloud, for example, weigh the benefits of converged, hyper-converged and All-Flash storage, so you can deploy with confidence.
5. Align processes, people and culture
Explore how new business processes may affect employees and customers. If customers use mobile apps widely, you could strategize ways to accelerate app development and meet changing requirements in real time. Finding ways to help teams learn and adapt will help transform your culture and processes for greater efficiency.
