Guide to Graduate Education Fall 2014

Welcome to the Fall 2014 edition of The Washington Post’s Guide to Business and Graduate Education.

In this edition we will introduce you to a new masters degree in legal studies. We also delve further into what makes online graduate programs so appealing to students of the online generation as well as to older students. Through student interviews, we discover what it takes to get the most from online programs as well as how to navigate bumps in the road.

In the following pages, we expand on the ever growing field of cybersecurity and the reasons it is so appealing. Cybersecurity threats remain a topic of daily conversation and students in programs throughout the DMV are learning first hand from experts in the field. Here, we introduce you to Alex Starykh, a student in the IT field who wanted to advance his technology degree through cybersecurity studies.

In the first feature, we take a look at how students are financially able to obtain a graduate degree and we also report on how working professionals are able to make the most of furthering their education while maintaining a work/life balance. We explore options such as online classes; shorter, more intense programs as well as online programs are covered throughout. We also investigate various lengths of MBA programs that occur globally.
