Washington Capitals mark 50th anniversary with new logo

The 2024-25 National Hockey League season marks the 50th anniversary of the Washington Capitals franchise. Since its founding in 1974, the Capitals have transformed from an underdog expansion team to a beloved D.C. legacy with 13 division titles, three Presidents’ Trophies and one Stanley Cup.

In honor of the historic milestone, the Capitals recently revealed a new 50th-anniversary logo. The emblem incorporates elements from the team’s initial aesthetic in the ’70s, including reverse-italic lettering from the first logo, and the red and blue stars from the team’s original sweaters.

No Caps celebration is complete without the team’s unwavering fanbase. Cap fans can commemorate the team’s rich history at several special events this season, including a kickoff concert at Capital One Arena.
